Al Ain Académie /// About·

Al Ain Académie, founded in 2022, was born from the shared vision of two Italian brothers, Alain Smania and Glöen Smania, united by a deep sensitivity for art, fashion, and design. Rooted in Italy and inspired by Venice, the brand expresses an aesthetic that brings together attention to detail, creative research, and Made in Italy craftsmanship.

Within the brand, the two founders embody complementary roles that define its identity. Glöen Smania leads the creative direction, shaping the visual language, proportions, and aesthetic sensibility of Al Ain Académie. Alain Smania brings a broader managerial vision, guiding the strategic, entrepreneurial, and developmental side of the company. Together, they balance instinct and structure, creativity and direction, building a brand that is both expressive and grounded.

Their world has always been deeply connected to fashion. They grew up surrounded by craftsmanship, image, and garment culture: their grandfather, a tailor still active today at the age of ninety, passed on to them the value of precision, patience, and making by hand; their mother, owner of a fashion representation agency, introduced them to the commercial and relational side of the industry; and their father, a photographer, contributed to shaping their visual sensitivity and attention to composition. From these different influences, Al Ain Académie takes form as a family-rooted project where heritage, vision, and contemporary identity meet.

The project began to take shape during a trip to Marrakech, among carpets, textiles, and handcrafted objects discovered in the souk Zrabi. That journey marked a turning point: for the first time, the two brothers decided to work together on a shared project, bringing their different sensibilities into the same vision.

From that experience came the idea of transforming upholstery fabrics into the first Al Ain hoodie, created once back in Italy — a garment that still stands today as one of the brand’s most iconic pieces. It was also during this early phase that Glöen chose the name Al Ain, in tribute to his brother Alain, and Académie, to express the strong connection that both founders have always had with art and creative culture.

What began as a single garment soon became the foundation of a wider project: a brand built around identity, craftsmanship, and a vision shaped by both family heritage and artistic influence.

Venice holds a central place in the identity of Al Ain Académie. The founders were born in Italy and grew up near the city, a place that continues to shape their idea of beauty, craftsmanship, and culture. For this reason, Venice was chosen as the home of the first Al Ain store and of the Venice Experience. Conceived as an appointment-only space, the store reflects the brand’s desire to offer a more private, personal, and carefully curated experience, in direct connection with one of its deepest sources of inspiration.

Made in Italy represents an equally clear choice. Al Ain Académie produces in Italy because it believes in the value of local craftsmanship, in the quality of Italian manufacturing, and in the importance of creating work within its own territory. For the brand, Made in Italy is not only a mark of origin, but also a commitment to preserving knowledge, supporting people, and investing in the place it comes from.

Together, these two elements define an essential part of the brand’s identity: a vision rooted in Venice, expressed through Italian craftsmanship, and shaped to endure beyond seasons.

Each of our garments is enriched with handmade elements that reflect a rich culture of craftsmanship. Behind every collection is a network of workshops and artisans, from Venice to the Mediterranean, with whom we collaborate to bring each piece to life. Every technique and detail carries the identity, history, and character of the place from which it comes.

Despite the complexities this process often involves, each collection is guided by a clear intention: to support the growth of these workshops while celebrating the craftsmanship and the people behind every Al Ain piece.

The dialogue with these craft traditions, and with the workshops that preserve them, has become a defining part of our creative vision. More than a source of inspiration, these collaborations allow us to honor artisanal excellence, preserve valuable knowledge, and create pieces shaped by authenticity, cultural depth, and enduring craftsmanship.
